Telecom Laureate Program

Our Telecom Laureate Program  honours and celebrates Canada’s telecommunications pioneers and leaders by inducting them into Canada’s Telecommunications Hall of Fame as Laureates. Based on nominations received from the public, our Hall of Fame Laureate Selections Panel will select worthy candidates for induction annually at our Telecom Laureate Awards gala into one of the four Hall of Fame categories, namely:

(a) Inventors and Innovators
(b) Icons of Business
(c) Servants of the Public
(d) Advocates and Academics

Qualified nominees for Hall of Fame induction as Telecom Laureates will be screened and selected by a blue-ribbon Hall of Fame Laureate Selections Panel comprised of knowledgeable, independent and well-respected Canadians drawn from the telecommunications sector.

Well-respected and independent members of the Canadian telecommunications industry comprise the Selections Panel, including 2005 Telecom Laureate, David Colville, who chairs the panel.

The Telecom Laureate Program is well advertised through news releases, print and website-based nomination forms and processes, direct-mail letters and emails, at industry conferences and seminars, at Canadian universities and colleges. Through the advertising of our Telecom Laureate Program, our Hall of Fame announcement events and our annual Telecom Laureate Awards induction ceremonies and gala dinner, we fulfill our key aim of raising knowledge and public awareness of this vibrant and heritage-rich Canadian industry.

In all that we do, we strive to demonstrate and advocate the tremendous successes that Canada and Canadians have achieved in telecommunications over more than 170 years. For example, we have already brought new awareness to thousands of members of the telecommunications industry about the career accomplishments of many of our least-known industry geniuses, Laureates John Chapman (Servants of the Public – 2005), Reginald Aubrey Fessenden (Inventors and Innovators – 2005), Charles Fleetford Sise (Icons of Business – 2005),  Donald Hings (Inventors and Innovators - 2006), Leila Wightman (Icons of Business – 2006), Frederic Newton Gisborne (Inventors and Innovators - 2007), Donald Chisholm (Inventors and Innovators - 2009), and Colin Franklin, (Servants of the Public – 2009).

The Telecom Laureate Awards honour and celebrate deserving Laureates who will be chosen by the following members of the Hall of Fame Laureate Selections Panel:
