Our Laureate Award

At the inaugural 2005 Telecom Laureate Awards in Toronto, Canada’s Telecommunications Hall of Fame unveiled the beautiful, handcrafted gold-and-black statuette that has quickly come to be the most coveted and recognized award our industry confers on its greatest achievers. As yet unnamed, the Laureate Award statuette was designed and painstakingly cast by artisans Jean-Eudes Germain and Michel Larbrisseau of Trifac Inc. in Montreal.

Working from an original “Candlestick” telephone loaned to Canada’s Telecommunications Hall of Fame by Bell Canada, the Trifac design team has created a three-quarter scale rendering of the famed telephone, which is also referred to as the “Daffodil” for its distinctive mouthpiece. The scale replica of the Candlestick, which was cast in bronze, brass and copper using the lost wax process from wax moulds, is mounted on a base of black anodized aluminium. The base is adorned with a commemorative Hall of Fame plaque inscribed with the Laureate’s name, career contribution, Hall of Fame category and year of induction.

“We are thrilled to have been selected to design and craft these beautiful and meaningful award statuettes,” said Michel Larbrisseau. “Although the award has a classic and simple elegance about it, looks can be deceiving. There have been a number of design challenges along the way, and we believe we have succeeded in creating a stunning and sophisticated award that any Laureate would be proud to receive.”

The Trifac team has also collaborated with Canada's Telecommunications Hall of Fame to create a magnificent gold-plate medallion that are awarded annually to winners of the Hall of Fame's Career Service Awards.
